        History

        Carl J. Anderson, 1898-1998, was born in Nebraska, USA and came to the Scandia area of Alberta in 1918 to farm. He was instrumental in the formation of the Eastern Irrigation District in 1935, and managed it from 1947 to 1964. He organized the Bow Slope Shipping Association in 1934, and managed it until 1968. He was supervisor of several livestock feeders' associations in the Brooks area, and in 1960 assisted in setting up a feeder association on the Blackfoot (Siksika) reserve near Cluny. He has been actively involved in many agricultural associations including the Canadian Livestock Cooperative, Alberta Livestock Cooperative, and Alberta Federation of Agriculture. He was a member of the Scandia local of the United Farmers of Alberta and its successor, the Farmers' Union of Alberta, and on the local board of Jenny Lind School District. For his significant contributions to Alberta's agricultural development he was inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1974.
