Biographical history

Allen Ronaghan, 1923- , was born in Alberta. He was educated as a teacher, taught in schools in central Alberta and Saskatchewan, and was the principal of the Tofield, Alberta school. In 1949 he married Shirley Anne Hemphill, who was also a teacher. They had three children, Leona May, 1951- , Elizabeth Nora, 1953- , and Stella Mary, 1955- . After teaching for many years Allen returned to university. He received his MA from the University of Saskatchewan and his PhD in western Canadian history from the University of Manitoba. The Ronaghans have homes in both Islay, Alberta and Edmonton.

The fonds consists of "All the Way Over : a handbook of the descendants of James Ronaghan in North America", compiled by Allen (1968); briefs to the government proposing historic sites at Ribstone Hill, Fort Ostell, Frog Lake, Neutral Hills Buffalo Park, and the location where Louis Riel stopped surveyor Capt. A.C. Webb; and briefs to the government about education, bilingualism, the constitution, conservation and the environment. Includes a map of John McDougall's movements near Iron Creek.
