Biographical history

Albert Ludwig was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Army in 1940 but transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served as a navigator and bomb aimer before being captured and spending 11 months in a prisoner of war camp. After the war he studied law at the University of Alberta and graduated in 1951. Ludwig entered private practice in 1952 and continued until 1980 except for his years in the Alberta Legislature. He was appointed as a judge of the criminal court in 1980 and served until 1989. He was a member of Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the Social Credit Party from 1959 to 1975. Among other responsibilities he was Chair of the Teacher's Bargaining Rights Committee and of the Special Committee for Recruiting and Selection of an Ombudsman (1967), and member of the Committee on Workmen's Compensation and Legislative Committee on the Invasion of Privacy From 1969 to 1971 Ludwig was Minister of Public Works in the Alberta Cabinet. He also ran federally in Calgary East for the Liberal Party but was not elected.
