Biographical history

William James O'Brien Bourchier, 1854-1923, married Victoria Knight, 1858-1944, in Collingwood, Ontario in January, 1885. He worked on location surveys for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in western Canada and then as a Dominion Land Agent at Regina, Saskatchewan and Calgary, Alberta. In 1871 he was a member of the survey party that included Charles Horetzky, who took the earliest photographs of what later became Alberta. In 1891 his family moved to Edmonton and he established a farm lands and farm implement business in partnership with James Powell. In the early 1900s Bourchier accepted a job as Right of Way agent for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, from which he retired about 1914-1915. He and his wife then moved to Vancouver. They had two daughters, Kate Gwendoline Victoria (Pinder), 1889-?, and Frances G. (O'Kelly).
