Biographical history
Walter William Rippin was born in London, England on February 6 1873. During the Second Boer War he served with the South African Constabulary. Shortly after the end of the war he emigrated to Canada where he homesteaded in the Bragg Creek area of Alberta and married Mildred Robinson with whom he had three children. In 1915 he sold this property and enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force where he served with the Third Canadian Field Ambulance in the 1st Canadian Division. Following the war he returned to Canada and operated several hardware stores in Calgary, Alberta. Rippin died in Calgary on April 3, 1937.

Material was inherited from creator by donor's aunt and passed on to him following his aunt's death.

Scope and content
Consists of material created and accumulated by Walter Rippin during his service in the Boer War and WWI. Includes original photography, glass plate negatives, maps, serials, ephemera, and some small amount of correspondence.

Glass slides are fragile, with some emulsion flaking evident on two of them. Viewing is limited to legitimate research need.
