On August 18, 1887, W.S. Caine of England, Member of Parliament (MP) for Barrow, departed on an around-the-world trip with his eldest daughter. He wrote a series of letters home, which were published in an English newspaper. During his travels he crossed Canada and visited Winnipeg, Manitoba, Calgary, Alberta and Banff, Alberta.
