History

The first student residence complex at the University opened in 1965 and was called Calgary Hall (renamed Craigie Hall in 1985). Cascade Hall opened in 1999.

In 2009, International House opened housing Global Village (the University’s first multicultural living-learning residence) and Hotel Alma (the University’s first on-campus hotel).

By 2015, Residence Services were part of the Ancillary Services portfolio reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Services. Ancillary Services operations comprised a group of self-funded operations including the Bookstore, Food Services, Hotel Alma, etc. committed to offering a high level of quality services enhancing, supporting and serving the University of Calgary, with all Ancillary proceeds staying on campus supporting academic, research, and student programming initiatives.
