        History

In 1995, a new position of Director, University Secretariat was created which combined the responsibilities of the former Secretary to the General Faculties Council (GFC) and the Secretary to the Board of Governors (BOG), as well as taking on new responsibilities. Around 2010, the position of Director, University Secretariat appears to have been renamed University Secretary.

By 2015, the University Secretariat was described as an administrative unit consisting of the University Secretary and his/her staff reporting to the President, responsible for providing administrative support for the informed decision-making of the Board of Governors, General Faculties Council (GFC) and Standing Committees. The University Secretariat provides assistance and advice to the Board Chair, the President, Board members, GFC members, and senior officers; co-ordinates the activities of decision-making at the senior level, including planning, routing, scheduling, and providing strategic advice; prepares proposals, or provides editorial and content advice to proposal authors; arranges meetings to provide appropriate facilities and atmosphere for decision-making; provides for meeting minutes and action follow-up; provides advice on routing, jurisdiction, policy, process, and precedent; provides orientation to new members of the Board of Governors and General Faculties Council; maintains a collection of records and information on site and in Archives, in hard copy and electronic format; tracks items, plans and prepares agendas for the Board of Governors, the General Faculties Council, and senior administrative committees and sub-committees.
