        History

The predecessor of the MacEwan Hall Directorate was the University Centre Commission (1967-1969) which had the initial over-all management and control of what was then called the University Centre or Students' Union Building. The MacEwan Hall Directorate was formed later under the Companies Act in March 1969 and had essentially the same terms of reference: to maintain, administer, manage and operate MacEwan Hall. The Directorate was also to institute, supervise and conduct social and education programs utilizing the facilities of the Hall. The Directorate held and operated the Hall on behalf of the Board of Governors and the Students' Union until 1974 when it was renamed the MacEwan Hall Policy Board and reported to the Board of Governors on matters of policy and to the Students' Union for information.
