History

In 1966 there was mention of a Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts and Science. No mention was made of the department until 1969 when a Linguistics Program was listed. In 1971, the Department of Linguistics was again part of the Faculty of Arts and Science. The department moved in 1977 to the newly created Faculty of Social Sciences.

In 2010, it became part of the newly created Faculty of Arts when the Faculty of Humanities ceased to exist. In July 2013, the Departments of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic and East Asian Studies merged to become the Department of Linguistics, Languages and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts.
