Biographical history
Local No. 134 of the United Farmers of Alberta, originally called the Devon Local, was established 50 km southeast of Hanna, Alberta on April 2, 1919. J.H. Hoover was the first president. In late 1919 the name was changed to Carolside. The local held social events, lobbied to have a grain elevator built in Carolside, helped members get relief seed grain from the provincial government, and bought gopher poison in bulk on behalf of members. It became dormant after 1924, but was reorganized as UFA, Square Deal Local No. 108 in 1930.
