Fonds consists of records related to the professional and personal life of Malcolm Forsyth that reveal the many aspects of his career as music composer and arranger, conductor and music director, educator, and scholar. The fonds is arranged into seven record series: Music Composing series consisting of music sketches and scores composed by Forsyth, and other records related to his compositions (1960-2010); Music Arranging series consisting of music sketches and scores arranged by Forsyth, and related material (1960-2011); Music Business series consisting of records related to the business and administrative aspects of Forsyth’s music career (1957-2010); Other Musical Activities series consisting of sound recordings of Forsyth’s works, sound recordings of interviews with him, records related to his teaching, conducting, and adjudicating activities, and concert programs of his works (1961-2010); Scholarship series consisting of records related to Forsyth’s music education and his academic career (1960-2000); Personal series consisting of biographies, curriculum vitae, photographs, and art sketches (1960-2010); and Correspondence series consisting of professional and personal correspondence (1967-2011).
