Biographical history

Thomas Ray worked as an assistant to British publisher Peter Davies, 1897-1960, who was associated with Heinemann Publishing Group. Davies purchased the Lovat Dickson publishing company in 1938 and became the owner of the rights to Grey Owl's books. Ray preserved the Grey Owl file when Heinemann moved offices.

The collection consists of material saved by Thomas Ray, including correspondence from Grey Owl and his mother, Kittie Scott-Brown, to Country Life Magazine and Lovat Dickson publishers; four photographic transparencies featuring Grey Owl, Anahareo and a log cabin; and two short, silent, black and white films "Beaver People" (1928) and "Beaver Family" (1929).
