Biographical history

The Stephen Avenue Mall Alliance was formed in Calgary, Alberta in 1980 to sponsor, establish, promote and administer a heritage conservation area around Calgary's downtown mall and to revitalize the commercial, retail and historical character of the mall. Among the group's major activities were the publication of the Stephen Standard newspaper and a campaign to "Save the Mall" in 1981. The organization disbanded in 1983. Penina Coopersmith, Trudy Cowan and Dr. Walter Jamieson were prominent in the organization.
