Biographical history
Una Maclean Evans, a Glenbow staff member, was commissioned to undertake research on the Special Areas of Alberta. Due to drought and depopulation in southeastern Alberta, Special Areas were first established in the 1920s and 1930s to allow the provincial government to take over administration. The land in question encompassed Sullivan Lake, Berry Creek, Sounding Creek, Neutral Hills, Tilley East, Hand Hills and Acadia Valley. Evans gathered information on pre-settlement times, the ranching and homesteading periods, and the formation of the Special Areas. She also assessed the success of the Special Areas administration. During her research she interviewed individuals involved in Special Areas.
