Name of creator
Samuel Hetherington, 1860-1941, was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. He moved to Canada and joined the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) at Winnipeg on May 23, 1883. He served in Calgary, Fort Macleod, Athabasca Landing, and Lethbridge, Alberta and Regina, Saskatchewan. He was promoted to corporal in 1886, to sergeant in 1887, and to sergeant-major in 1889. In 1899 he married Annie Jane Storey in Fort Macleod. In 1901 he was demoted to constable, then discharged from the NWMP. He subsequently worked as a timekeeper for Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), and from 1909 until his retirement in 1925 was employed by the City of Calgary Waterworks Department.
