Name of creator
Samuel George Rutledge, 1868-1937, emigrated from Dublin, Ireland to Calgary, Alberta in 1910. He worked as a messenger for financial institutions. He speculated in petroleum stocks at the time of the 1914 oil boom in Calgary, and later developed a home-based business, the Marvello Manufacturing Company, which made cleaning products. He was married to the former Anna (Annie) Armstrong, 1870-1925. They had five children, Samuel Rutledge Jr., Maisie (Cope), James, Anna (Roper), and Georgina (Hudson).

The fonds consists of personal financial documents, letters of reference, share certificates of Calgary oil and gas companies issued in 1914, and business correspondence predominantly relating to the Marvello Manufacturing Company.
