Biographical history
Salamon "Sam" Pritchard, 1862-1967, was born at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, the son of fur trader John Pritchard and his Cree wife. He was a guide and interpreter for missionaries, surveyors and homesteaders. He was captured during the Frog Lake Massacre of the 1885 Riel Rebellion (North West Rebellion), but managed to escape. He subsequently worked on several Montana ranches, ran a trading post, and hauled freight between North Battleford and Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He and his wife, who died in 1944, had ten children, including George, Adeline (Whitford), and Rose (Pambrum). He was the president of the Willow Field branch of the Metis Association for eight years. He died in Cando, Saskatchewan.
