Historia
Margaret (Willms) Sallis was born on October 9, 1912 in the Russian Mennonite colony of Molochna. In 1929, her family fled religious persecution in Russia, eventually emigrating to Canada in 1930. Settling first in Coaldale, Alberta, the family moved to Clearbrook, British Columbia (present day Abbotsford), in 1931. Shortly afterwards, Margaret contracted tuberculosis and spent several years in treatment and recovery. During WWII, she worked in Ottawa as a censorship examiner. Following the war, she attended the University of British Columbia, earning a degree in home economics. During this time she met and married Douglas Sallis. After Sallis earned his medical degree the couple moved to Smithville, Wisconsin where Douglas opened a medical practice. There they raised their two children, Friedemann and Christine. Margaret Sallis died on October 29, 1966 of congestive heart failure.
