Biographical history

W. Robert Hood, 1913-1981, and his wife, Mary Burgess, 1913- , were both born in Calgary, Alberta. Robert's father came to Calgary in 1902, and his mother, Minnie Burnett, came in 1910. Robert's aunt, Ethel Hood, worked as a bookkeeper in Calgary in the 1930s. Robert and Mary married in 1946, and they had one daughter, Marion. Robert began his teaching career in Calgary in 1935, although he also worked at other occupations including Calgary agent for the LaSalle Extension University from 1952-1959. Mary took a portion of the university's stenotyping correspondence course in 1959-1960. Robert retired in 1973.

The fonds consists of photographs of Calgary, Winnipeg, Lake Louise and Banff (ca. 1920s - by Stephen J. Thompson), Mary's correspondence course lessons (1959-1960) and scrapbook, Ethel's postcards (1906), and Minnie's drawing book (1894).
