Biographical history

A collection of postcards of western Canadian scenes was kept in an album. The inside front cover was inscribed “R. A. Young, Calgary, Alberta, Canada”. According to the Calgary city directory, there were several city residents during the 1910s who could have had that name.

Archival history

The collection came into the possession of Dr. Helen Stewart of Edinburgh, Scotland. It was delivered to Glenbow on her behalf by a Dr. Temple.

The collection consists of an album of unaddressed postcards, including color lithographs of the Red Ensign emblazoned with the Alberta coat of arms, images of First Nations peoples of southern Alberta, lithographs of drawings and paintings by Charles M. Russell and other Western artists, black-and-white and tinted views of the Rocky Mountains along the CPR line, action shots of the 1912 Calgary Stampede photographed by Marcell, action shots of the 1916 Moose Jaw Stampede photographed by Weeks Pugh, action shots of a 1915 stampede in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, action shots of the Vulcan Stampede, views of the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver and of the Vancouver Court House, and a view of Swalwell, Alberta.
