Name of creator
The Pearlman family, came to Winnipeg, Manitoba from Propoisk, Russia. Several members of this Jewish family, including Abraham, ?-1965 and Benjamin, moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1924, where they purchased Polar Aerated Water Works. They were later joined by brothers Lou and Harry. In 1936 Polar was granted a Seven-Up franchise, and later they added Orange Crush. In the 1960s the company was taken over by Abraham's three sons-in-law, Sam Hamer, Ben Torchinsky and Bill Tax. In 1916 Abraham married Sophie Leve, ?-1956, and after her death married Mary Rudin. They had three children Lily (Hamer), Esther (Tax) and Sarah (Torchinsky). Benjamin married Rowena Perlman and they had two children, Marsha (Hanen) and Ronald. Louis married Edythe Rosen in 1930 and they had five children, Naomi (Shatz), Eta (Kerr), Donna (Cohen), Clarice (Ondrack), and Howard.
