Biographical history
The International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades of the United States and Canada was established in the USA in 1887 as the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators and Paperhangers of America. The current name was adopted in 1969. Local 583 was chartered in Calgary in 1906. In 1969 local 1738 in Lethbridge, Alberta merged with local 583.
