Geschiedenis

Thomas Rennie "Pat" McCloy, 1906-1996, was born in Meskanaw, Saskatchewan. He received a BA from the University of Saskatchewan and a BLS from the University of Toronto. During the Second World War he served as a clerk and a surveyor, enlisting in the 1st Survey Regiment at Saskatoon in 1940. By 1944 he was a sergeant. For a year after the war he was in charge of the library at the Khaki University of Canada in England. He then worked at the Provincial Library of British Columbia, the University of British Columbia Library, the Public Archives of Canada and the National Library. In 1956 he became the first librarian at the Glenbow Foundation (later the Glenbow-Alberta Institute). He was an avid genealogist, and undertook extensive research on the McCloy family, the McKay and Traill families (related to his mother), and other related families. Some of these families were Metis. He retired in 1972. He married Doreen Luff Woodford, 1918-2000, after the war, and they had one daughter, Nora Woodford McCloy.
