History

The University of Calgary's Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Programme was established "to benefit the community of readers and writers in Calgary, Alberta and in Canada and to enhance the activities of the Department of English, particularly in its creative writing endeavours. In order to accomplish this, the Distinguished Writers Programme, through a generous endowment, has established two residencies: one for an emerging and promising Canadian writer, and one for a distinguished visiting writer of international stature". Special Collections, in co-operation with the Faculty of Humanities and the Department of English, is the repository for materials relating to the programme.
