        Sir John Scott Keltie, 1840-1927, was born at Dundee, Scotland and studied at St. Andrews University. He worked in journalism and publishing, and from 1884 until his death he was associated with the Royal Geographical Society successively as Librarian, Editor, Secretary, and Vice-President. He was awarded many honors, including a knighthood in 1918. He was married and had one daughter.
