Notice biographique
J. Howard Kelly, 1899-1981, was born in Ontario, and came to Alberta in 1902. During the 1920s he was a sports writer for the Calgary Herald, at which time he became a close friend of Chief Buffalo Child Long Lance (Sylvester Clark Long). He earned a law degree from the University of Alberta and became a solicitor for Burns and Company in 1929. He worked his way up and became president of Burns in 1961. After his retirement in 1964 he worked as a labour arbitrator until the mid-1970s. He and his wife, Leona, had two children, John Howard Jr. and Anne (Hawitt).
