James Nevin Wallace, 1870-1941, undertook research on the history of Bowness, Alberta, a town on the Bow River which became part of the City of Calgary in 1963. He compiled this material in the 1920s and 1930s.

The collection consists of 1882 order-in-council giving details of ranching leases in the area; Bowness electors' lists (1934, 1935); Wallace's correspondence regarding early ranchers, including Thomas Stone, John Lister Kaye, T.H.B. Cochrane, William Beresford, and others; plans of the Calgary Hydraulic Company's ditch (1894); and extensive newspaper clippings about Bowness (1920-1940).
