Biographical history

James Richard McNamara was born January 22nd 1912 in Regina Saskatchewan. He moved to Alberta and lived in Calgary where he worked as an office manager and was active with the Stampeder’s Hockey Club. During WWII he enlisted and served with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. He was killed in action in Italy during the attempt to take Coriano Ridge on September 9th, 1944.

Archival history

Material was held by McNamara’s widow, Doris Eleanor McNamara, following his death. Donor is Doris Eleanor McNamara’s nephew by a later marriage.

Consists of photographs, textual records and military medals predominately related the military career and death in combat of James McNamara during WWII.
