File consists of letters sent home (Barberton, South Africa) by Lloyd Williams during his time of service as a soldier for the South African Republic during the Second Boer War. Letters are written alternately to his sister Ada, or his sister Susie. They begin during his time at "camp Mukonjwa", likely located in the Makhonjwa Mountains near Barberton, and carry on after his capture and removal to a British Prisoner of War camp in Ceylon (Camp Diyatalawa and later Camp Ragama). The letters are highly detailed, include pencil sketches and rubbings and often cross reference photographs that Williams has taken of his location or intends to take.
