Eighteen letters, 2 postcards, and one field note from the front dated August 12 stating “I am well”. The letters from March 9, 1916 to Dec. 31, 1916 are from the front in France and Belgium. The Dec. 26 letter describes how Gerald and 4 other soldiers arranged a Christmas chicken dinner at a farmhouse – the chicken was tough and there were very few vegetables. The postcards are of Rouen Cathedral and the Ypres Cathedral pre and post-bombing. Most letters are in their original envelopes with postage stamps intact.

The Sept. 24, 1917 letter describes dinner describes an outing with four Canadian soldiers and two nurses. The Dec. 30, 1917 letter includes printed Christmas greetings to the troops from R.E.W. Turner, Lt. Gen, Commanding Canadian Forces in the British isles. The postcard shows the Forth Bridge, Scotland. Letters are in their original envelopes.
