Series consists of records on events, activities and milestones of MacDonald’s career at the University of Calgary. Records include correspondence, invitations and news clippings, reports from committees that MacDonald was involved with including the Task Force on Scholarly Communication, Human Resources Task Force and Governance Task Force. Records also consist of MacDonald’s academic annual reports, photographs of MacDonald with Honourary Degree recipients, and notes, cards and letters of congratulations on his retirement from Director of Libraries in 1992 and on leaving the University in 2003.

Series consists of records gathered by MacDonald on his father Vincent Christopher MacDonald, lawyer, law professor, Dean of Law at Dalhousie University, civil servant and judge. Records include correspondence with the Dalhousie University Archives relating to the papers that MacDonald had deposited and a student prize MacDonald had set up in his father’s name, convocation booklet for Vincent and correspondence with his wife Hilda, and photographs.

Series consists of records gathered by MacDonald on his uncle Wallace Archibald MacDonald, silent film star and movie producer. Records include research sources prepared in chronological order by MacDonald, and copies of newspaper and magazine clippings, reviews, notices, publicity shots and production stills sent by Wallace. Records also include scrapbooks related to Wallace’s career, and movie posters.

Files consist of correspondence on applying for Chief Librarian position, farewell cards and letters, invitations and news clippings, a limited edition (416/1,000) of “Calgary, Many Years Hence: The Mawson Report in Perspective,” by E .Joyce Morrow, correspondence on appointment to the Task Force on Scholarly Communication, and a copy of the 1980 report of the Task Force. Folded within the Task Force Report are two pages of notes for a speech given by MacDonald in 2004 on the 25th anniversary of the University of Calgary Press
