The sub-subseries also consists of a “Proposal for the Reorganization of the Allan Administrative System,” a report on “Responses to a Medicare Strike in a Psychiatric Hospital,” a “Patient Statistics Preliminary Report” reviewing discharged patients and a one-year follow-up, and reports on a Management Study for the Allan Memorial Institute.

The records illustrate Dr. Lewis’ participation on various committees including the Committee on the Role of the University, First Year Curriculum Committee, and the Permanent Advisory Committee on Undergraduate Education (P.A.C.U.M.E), the Postgraduate Curriculum Committee, the Training Committee, and the Faculty Committee for Residency Training. The subseries also consists of reports on “Postgraduate Training at McGill,” “Recognition of the Changing Role of the Psychiatric Resident,” “Faculty Committee for Residency Training,” “Postgraduate Training on Psychiatry at McGill,” “Report on the State of Affairs [for the postgraduate training course],” and a report on a visit to Duke University to investigate methods of undergraduate training.

Records include procedures on administration and admitting, guidelines on psychiatric assessments and electro-convulsive therapy (ECT), and policies on rounds, drugs and the Emergency Department. The subseries also consists of correspondence on the Crisis Clinic, the Family Therapy program, the Group Therapy program, the Methadone Withdrawal Program, and the Young Adult Program. Strategic planning records include retreats, long term planning for the Department of Psychiatry, the Department of Psychiatry’s Five Year Plan, and records on the capital construction project for the extension to psychiatric services in the Support Services Building. Committee records include the Department of Psychiatry’s departmental and executive committees, Medical Record Committee, Methadone Steering Committee, Residency Training Committee and the Space Allocation Committee.
The subseries consists of Dr. Lewis’ research into the history of treatment methods models regarding the effects of battle fatigue experienced by military personnel during WWI and WWII. Records include manuscript drafts, notes, correspondence, military reports, and articles on the treatments developed by Canadian psychiatrist Arthur Doyle for the military during WWII in Sicily, Italy.
The subseries consists of Dr. Lewis’ research into milieu therapy, or the use of group therapy or therapeutic communities to assist in treating disorders. Records include research gathered on different models for milieu therapy, drafts of papers and presentations,
correspondence with other clinics, and proceedings from a series on the therapeutic community hosted by the Allan Memorial Institute. The subseries also consists of research gathered during visits to other institutions.
The subseries consists of the planning for, and the information gathered during Dr. Lewis’ sabbaticals. The first (1977-1978) involved trips to Europe and New York to research other Affective Disorders Clinics. The second (1984-1985) appears to have been for a follow-up study on Little Men or Lilliputianism. It is unclear if this sabbatical took place.
The subseries consists of Dr. Lewis’ long-running correspondence and work with Dr. Robert Cleghorn. Records include correspondence, drafts of papers and presentations, research notes and background materials, annotated drafts of chapters for the autobiography, and an early handwriting analysis of Dr. Cleghorn. The subseries also consists of published articles by Dr. Cleghorn including reminisces on Donald Cameron.
The subseries consists of Dr. Lewis’ research into Robert Burton, a 16th century English scholar and vicar primarily known for writing “The Anatomy of Melancholy.” Records include drafts and final copies of papers and presentations, research notes and background materials, and a script with stage directions for a skit on Robert Burton.
The subseries consists of Dr. Lewis’ research into the relationships and linkages that might exist with psycho-immune studies or PNEPPI: Psycho-neuro-endocrino-pharmacoimmunology. Records include research notes and background materials, correspondence, drafts of papers and presentations, research outlines and abstracts.
