Fonds consists of personal and professional records created or maintained by George Baird. The records document his activities as a renowned Canadian architectural studies teacher, critic, and writer. The files consist of correspondence, writings, photographs, presentations, awards, posters, research, and teaching files. The majority of the records are from 1950 to 2018, spanning his activities as a professor and dean at the University of Toronto (1967-1993, 2004-2009), professor at Harvard University (1993-2004), a visiting lecturer at schools and events around the world, and as an influential critic and writer on architectural theory. The fonds includes records relating to Baird’s many writings on architecture, his education at the University of Toronto (1957-1962), his service on associations, and his travels both personal and professional over the years. Fonds documents Jeremy Sturgess’s architectural practice from 1975 and 2018. Records include architectural drawings, office files, photographs, diaries, sketchbooks, presentation panels, models, and audiovisual materials. There are over 500 projects documented in the fonds. The architectural projects span his work at the Sturgess Partnership (1978-1987), Sturgess Architects, Ltd. (1987-1993), and Sturgess Architecture (1993-present). Among the notable projects represented are Banff Town Hall, Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel, Yukon Visitor Reception Centre, Calgary Water Centre, 7th Avenue LRT Masterplan & Station Refurbishment, The Bridges Masterplan/Bridgeland Community Centre/Olive, Connaught Gardens, Alberta Pavilion Expo 86, House on Bowen Island, Naidoo/McLaughlan Residence, Assured Beltline, Spiral House, the Block, Borden Residence, and many others. The fonds consists of records documenting the architectural career of Henry Yorke Mann primarily from 1953 to 1970 and 1997 to 2015. There are also records relating to his training as an architect at Washington State College and the University of Oregon from 1949 to 1954. Records include architectural drawings, photographs, notes, correspondence, sketches, journals, reports, contracts, teaching materials, articles, and grant and award submissions. There are over 100 of Mann’s projects documented in the fonds, including 1960s projects Eijgel Residence, Clark Residence, Engineers’ Club, Killarney Community Centre, Mann Residence, and the Laura Lynn Riding and Country Club, as well as projects from the 1990s to 2015 including the Allard Residences at Salt Spring and Chestermere, Posts Standing (Ramus Residence), the Totems, Quietude Residence, and Manndala (Architect’s Residence). The fonds consists of 344 architectural drawings, 62 photographs, 6 panels, and a small amount of textual records documenting the architectural career of Richard Hunter. The architectural drawings comprise the majority of the records in the fonds. They span the years when Hunter was a student at the University of Oklahoma in the mid-1950s, from 1958 to 1967 when Hunter practiced architecture in California and Alaska, and from 1968 to 2015 when his practice was located in Victoria, British Columbia. The drawings include both artistic and imaginary conceptual design projects along with proposed and built projects, largely in the Victoria, B.C., area, but also in Alaska, California, and New Mexico. Among the projects documented in the fonds are Cook Residence, House for Jean-Louis Denux, House for Margaret Haines, Hunter Residence, Intermediate Care Home in Terrace, B.C., Killam Residence, Martin Residence, the Mt. Baldy Zen Centre and Bathhouse in California, Rabinowitz Residence in Fairbanks, Alaska, Rankin Residence, and Sievert Residence. The architectural drawings generally include preliminary drawings and presentation drawings, and to a lesser extent working drawings. The fonds includes a small amount of photographs, panels, and textual records documenting Hunter’s design projects. The office records consist of copies of his architectural practice pamphlets and the photographs include his student work as well as interior and exterior images of the Hunter Residence, Rankin Residence, and Sievert Residence. The fonds also notably includes copies of architectural drawings by the renowned American architect Bruce Goff and his student Herb Greene, both of whom influenced Hunter while he studied at the University of Oklahoma. There are reproductions of 15 of Bruce Goff’s drawings, including presentation drawings for his projects Bavinger House, the Blakeley House, and House for Captain and Mrs. J.D. Wilson. There are ten of Herb Greene’s drawings, which were likely printed by Hunter in the 1950s while an architecture student. The fonds furthermore includes a small amount of records relating to the well-known German architect Eric Mendelsohn and his wife Louise Mendelsohn. Records include a copy of Louise Mendelsohn’s unpublished autobiography entitled My Life in a Changing World as well as a portrait of her taken in circa 1925. Fonds consists of architectural drawings, photographs, reports, and promotional materials documenting the architectural landscape work of Lombard North Group from 1965 to 2008. The records primarily include architectural drawings and reports for projects by the firm across western Canada and Ontario. The landscape architectural drawings document all phases of the design process including preliminary sketches, design development drawings, working drawings, and presentation drawings. The fonds includes numerous reports produced by LNG for projects in land planning, urban design, and golf course and resort development. The reports also include reports used as supplementary research in project design. The files in the fonds document the promotional aspect of the firm’s work, and numerous detail drawings created or maintained for project design development and working drawings issued by the firm. Consists of five scale models made for the Jeffrey Lindsay and Fuller Research Foundation Canadian Division themed exhibition Montréal et le rêve géodésique/Montreal’s Geodesic Dreams. Curated by Cammie McAtee with Carlo Carbone and Réjean Legault, the exhibition was held at the Centre de design, École de design, Université du Québec à Montréal, from September 21 until December 10, 2017. The models, along with full-scale details and a prototype dome, were designed and constructed by Carlo Carbone and his students in the design research laboratory Studio Cube of the École de design, UQAM. Students who collaborated on the construction of these models include Maxime Beaulieu, Julien Daly, Daniel Demay, Laurent Fouillet, and James Luca Pinel.

Fonds consists of architectural drawings, photographs, scrapbooks, certificates, reports, and specifications documenting the architectural career of Geoffrey Massey. The fonds primarily consists of architectural drawings spanning Massey’s career with Erickson/Massey, Watkins & Massey, Geoffrey Massey Architects, and Coal Harbour Architectural Group. Among the projects documented in the fonds are several by Erickson/Massey, including Apartment House at 1049 Chilco Street, Heller Residence, Stanzl Cabin at Whistler Mountain, and Erickson/Massey Office Building. Other notable projects include Warehouse and Offices at Vancouver International Airport, House at Qualicum Beach for Mr. & Mrs. Frank Kirchner, House for Mrs. P. Margetts, Keeling Residence, and Expo 86 Area 2 and Area 10. The project files include correspondence, notes, contracts, and invoices primarily documenting Watkins & Massey projects from 1957 to 1963, though there are also several reports from Erickson/Massey projects, including Simon Fraser University in 1963 and Village Lake Louise in 1971. The fonds includes a small volume of professional records including certificates and awards, publications, and an Erickson/Massey publicity poster. The personal records include Massey’s Harvard student portfolio and two scrapbooks, largely comprised of clippings. The fonds is divided into three series: 1. Personal records, 2. The fonds consists of 1852 architectural drawings, 25 digital photographs, 1 textual record, 2 graphic materials, and 288 digital copies of architectural drawings documenting the architectural career of William Grierson. The 1852 architectural drawings comprise the majority of the records in the fonds. Most of the drawings are originals though there are a smaller number of reprographic copies. They span the years when Grierson was practicing from 1961 to 1999. The drawings include preliminary drawings, design development drawings, and working drawings for proposed and built projects, largely in the Toronto area, but also in the cottage country of Georgian Bay, Lake Simcoe, and Haliburton, various parts of rural Central Ontario, as well as Prince George, B.C. Among the 138 projects documented in the fonds are Firstbrook cottage (1962), Firstbrook residence Old George Place (1964), Ferguson cottage Little Bear Lake (1965), Table Rock (1967), Northwood Pulp and Timber Office (1977, 1981), 33 Astley Avenue (1979-1984), Alterations to Matthews country house (1981), Lowther Avenue coach house (1983), Noranda Hemlo Mine Office (1983), Additions and alterations for Mr. and Mrs. William Jackson (1984), Rankin country house (1989), Northwest Pine Island (1991), Jacklin Island (1995), Poplar Hill (1996), Alterations to 23 Rosedale Road (1996), and Spears cottage (1997). The sole photographs in the fonds are 25 digital images of the Kneisel House in Belleville likely taken in 2006. The digital copies of Grierson’s drawings on 4 CD-Rs are almost entirely scans of originals held in the fonds. These digital copies were created after Grierson’s death likely by his colleague Anthony Belcher. On CD 1, however, there are digital copies of drawings of the Table Rock boat house and Table Rock hoist, of which there are not originals or prints in the fonds. Roger Kemble fonds

Consists of eleven sketchbooks created by Roger Kemble between 1964 and 1997. The sketchbooks primarily contain Kemble’s sketches and paintings but also include notes, thoughts, poems, ideas, concepts, and inspirations. The sketches largely relate to Kemble’s architectural practice but also include portraits, studies, and various other sketches. The fonds also includes twenty-eight journals from 1992 to 2007. The contents of the journals are daily personal journal entries interspersed with sketches that document or accompany the text. Also included is a Massey Medal for Architecture that Kemble received in 1967, copies of his books The Canadian City and The View from Chapel Street, and a CD-R containing 121 digital copies of photographs from the 1960s to 1990s. The digital photographs consist of 92 views of Kemble’s architectural projects and his studio, plus 29 family photographs.
