The series consists of records pertaining to Dr. Lewis’ early medical training at the University of Toronto, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Maudsley Hospital in England including records on a Lysergic Acid (LSD) research project. Also consists of correspondence and reports regarding Dr. Lewis’ McLaughlin Foundation Travelling Fellowship grant.

Courses represented include the Behavior Course, Death and Dying, Group Dynamics, Group training, Affective Disorders, Growth and Development and the History of Psychiatry.

The Series consists of records that reflect the breadth and depth of Dr. Lewis’ research interests and activities. His early interests included the investigation into Little Men or Lilliuputian hallucinations and the effects of Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) therapy. He also conducted research related to his administrative activities, particularly research to enhance and improve practice at the Affective Disorders Clinic. His later studies into chronic fatigue syndrome and psycho immune responses reflect his on-going evaluation of cause and effect in psychiatric practice. Lewis’s career brought him into contact with several of the pioneers of Canadian psychiatry; he later became interested in chronicling the lives of Robert Cleghorn and Donald Cameron.

The series consists of records reflecting Dr. Lewis’ early education and early psychiatric career, and also consists of personal correspondence with his family and friends and autobiographical narrative journal.
