Collection consists of photographs of geologic formations and topographic features; native peoples; northern communities; logging, mining, fishing and whaling activities; survey field parties; and miscellaneous subjects including some of U.S. Geologic Survey offices and staff. Most photographs were taken in Alaska, but also represented are the Yukon, Virginia, Maryland and Texas. Texas photographs are of oil fields and refineries, ca. 1917. Most photographs are dated and include descriptive captions. Photographs received in albums but removed for conservation purposes.

Fonds consists chiefly of material relating to the Canadian Arctic Expedition, 1913-1918, led by Vilhjalmur Stefansson. Includes correspondence, biological reports and official journals kept by F. Johansen, chiefly on hydrography and entomology, as a member of the Southern Party of the expedition. Also includes correspondence, biological reports and diaries relating to F. Johansen's field research in Hudson and James Bays, June 1920 - October 1920; scientific reports and species lists resulting from other field expeditions by F. Johansen and others, 1897-1926; and transcriptions of articles and personal narratives of scientific explorers, chiefly on hydrography, geology and meteorology, ca.1804 to the early 1900s.

Includes: manuscripts and published poems by, and correspondence with, Rienzi Crusz; correspondence (including email) with and poems by many other Canadian poets such as Henri Beissel, Anne Cimon, Chris Faiers, Ralph Gustavson, David Helwig, Susan Ioannou, Irving Layton, Seymour Mayne and Sharon H. Collection consists of material relating to W.O. Mitchell's term as writer-in-residence for Winnipeg School Division No. 1, September 15, 1974 - November 30, 1974. Includes samples of student papers using "Mitchell's messy method of creative writing"; professional materials consisting of videotapes of seminars on creative writing for teachers; presentations for elementary, junior high and senior high students consisting of videotapes of the presentations and questions from the students; audio and video recordings of readings by W.O. Mitchell from his own work; and audio and video recordings of W.O. Mitchell discussing theme and character in several of his own works. Textual records consist of samples of student papers, listing of the audio and video recordings and bibliography of related materials collected in a kit for use by schools in Winnipeg School Division No. 1 as well as two scrapbooks containing articles and photographs documenting W.O. Mitchell's work for the shool division. Also includes material relating to the seventy-fifth convocation of Brandon University, Brandon, Manitoba, held November 9, 1974, at which Paul Hiebert, James Gray and W.O. Mitchell received honorary doctorates, particularly an audio tape of a symposium on creative writing by the three writers moderated by Brandon University chancellor Stanley Knowles, as well as photographs and newsclippings.

Fonds consists of correspondence; research material and notes; preliminary work; manuscripts of novels, stage and radio plays, short stories and television play; reviews and promotional material; set designs and props for plays written or directed by K. Dyba; biographical material; published work; plays written by other authors; material relating to Canadian Actors' Equity Association, The Snail project and The vet project; proposals for various programs; photographs; sound recordings; videocassettes; and miscellaneous material. In addition to manuscripts, Accession 434/88.15 includes research material, such as photographs and sound recordings of Betty Mitchell interviews, used by K. Dyba in writing the biography Betty Mitchell (Calgary : Detselig Enterprises, 1986). Accessions 789/05.10 and 831/07.21 include materials relating to Wayson Choy including reviews, posters, itinerary, book catalogue, videotapes and photographs.

Fonds consists of correspondence to and from various members of the Simmins family, principally to Barbara Simmins, and Richard Simmins' photocards to Marjorie Simmins; material relating to B. Simmins' career, estate and financial matters; material relating to the death of Susette Simmins in 2007; drafts of B. Simmins' manuscript Should angels come: a letter to my daughter; articles by and about Philip Simmins, Richard Simmins and Geoffrey Simmins; daytimers and diaries written by B. Simmins (?) and Marjorie Mabel Beaufort Simmins; Karen Simmins' journals, poems, childhood drawings, stories and letters; photographs of members of the Simmins and Atkinson families, including several photo albums.

Buss's education and teaching and other professional activities including editing; works about H.M. Buss and miscellaneous. Fonds also includes 0.125 metres of manuscript material by H.J. Clarke (H.M. Buss's father) and his brother Leonard Clarke.
