The Macleod Gazette is after Dr. McEachean charging he refused settlers permission to locate on the Walrond Ranche lease. Superintendent Steele will be a good acquisition for the West.

Report on the condition of Indians along the Athabasca; Great Slave; MacKenzie; Liard; Nelson and Peace, and advisability of furnishing them aid in the way of food. The distance is too great to provide dispersal points perhaps twine or powder and shot instead. This year looks quite good. Impossible to provide relief even if starvation sets in.
