Fonds consists of architectural drawings, photographs, correspondence, minutes, reports, specifications, articles, awards, and other records documenting the architectural career of Peter Hemingway from 1956 to 1982. The majority of the fonds consists of project records, including drawings, textual files, and photographs, though there is also a small volume of office files (general correspondence, a project portfolio, and an organizational chart), as well as several files documenting Hemingway’s professional activities as an advocate of Prairie architecture through talks and articles. The fonds documents over 200 projects, largely in the Edmonton area, including Coronation Pool, Central Pentecostal Tabernacle, Edmonton Inn, Stanley Building, Johnstone Walker Store, and Muttart Conservatory, as well as several notable projects outside of Edmonton, including Market Square Kitchener, Yellowknife Courthouse, and Calgary’s Chinook Shopping Centre. Consists of eleven sketchbooks created by Roger Kemble between 1964 and 1997. The sketchbooks primarily contain Kemble’s sketches and paintings but also include notes, thoughts, poems, ideas, concepts, and inspirations. The sketches largely relate to Kemble’s architectural practice but also include portraits, studies, and various other sketches. The fonds also includes twenty-eight journals from 1992 to 2007. The contents of the journals are daily personal journal entries interspersed with sketches that document or accompany the text. Also included is a Massey Medal for Architecture that Kemble received in 1967, copies of his books The Canadian City and The View from Chapel Street, and a CD-R containing 121 digital copies of photographs from the 1960s to 1990s. The digital photographs consist of 92 views of Kemble’s architectural projects and his studio, plus 29 family photographs.

The majority of the records are from 1950 to 2018, spanning his activities as a professor and dean at the University of Toronto (1967-1993, 2004-2009), professor at Harvard University (1993-2004), a visiting lecturer at schools and events around the world, and as an influential critic and writer on architectural theory. The fonds includes records relating to Baird’s many writings on architecture, his education at the University of Toronto (1957-1962), his service on associations, and his travels both personal and professional over the years.
