The handwritten journals are in two sections: the front of each includes Manning's account of his political activities and the impressions he had of them; the back of each journal (beginning at the back cover and working towards the middle of the volume) consists of Manning's thoughts and impressions arising from his prayers and Bible study during the same period as the events recorded in the front half of the journal.
