Metcalf's Introduction; Author's commentaries by Morley Callaghan, Hugh Garner, Mordecai Richler, Alice Munro, Shirley Faessler, Alden Nowlan, George Bowering, David Helwig, John Metcalf and Ray Smith; Hugh Garner's Biography; and short stories A basket of apples by Shirley Faessler and A bag of cherries by J. Metcalf. M. Richler's Author's commentary was written to accompany story The summer my grandmother was supposed to die. This story was later withdrawn and replaced with story Bambinger.
