Series consists of records indicative of v. Herk’s service as a member of the Department of English, and the University community. Series includes files compiled by van Herk with information on activities during the year for inclusion in annual reports, research material for her essay on the 40
th anniversary in 2006, speaking engagements at the Chancellor’s Club, Equity Committee of the Department of English and honorary dinners, support for a graduate program in Culture and Society at the University, and correspondence on her work with the Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers program. The series consists of records of van Herk’s work as adjudicator of several literary and
cultural awards and prizes locally, and nationally The records include correspondence with committee members, notes, terms of reference, announcements, media releases and newspaper clippings. The majority of the files relate to van Herk chairmanship for the Canadian/Caribbean Region of the Common Wealth Prize Awards in 2007 and 2008.

Series consists of correspondence created or accumulated by van Herk. Records include letters, postcards, greeting cards, e-mails, brochures, pamphlets. The records detail van Herk’s correspondence with other authors, artists, friends, external organizations and publishers. The correspondence encompasses requests and information regarding speaking engagements, reviews, assessments and articles, and van Herk’s work with organizations; as such, this series may complement, supplement or duplicate information in other files. Names of correspondents are noted in each file. Email print-outs from the late 1990s onward predominate.

The series consists primarily of records relating to the creation of the permanent exhibit ‘Mavericks Gallery’ at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary which opened in 2006. The records include correspondence with the curatorial committee, planning documents, announcements, press releases, opening programs, speeches, and press clippings. As well, there is a catalogue of a Stampede Pavilion exhibit.
