Fonds consists of correspondence between Robert Wilmot Whiston and his daughter Gertrude Nora Turner, family photographs, the Whiston family tree, legal documents and certificates. Also includes a coil-bound booklet "Turner Tales," a memoir with photographs and stories of the Turner family.

Whiston's letters describe farmstead life under 'war time conditions' in Central Alberta in the 1930s and 40s, interactions with neighbors and townspeople, and accounts of animal husbandry, homesteading, agricultural crops, municipal and provincial government, rural public education systems, regional economics, environmental factors, public health system, public radio, and the war effort.
