Series consists primarily of correspondence between Joyce Doolittle and her family, particularly with her youngest daughter Amy Doolittle. Letters date from the time Amy was at university, her life in Toronto, her first marriage and continue until her second marriage and life in Ontario. Other family correspondence includes letters between Joyce and her husband Quenten and Joyce's three other children.

Series consists of personal journals, travel journals, calendars, day journals and notebooks in which Joyce recorded her daily activities, her schedule and her thoughts. Personal and travel journals were dedicated largely to her thoughts about her work. Some of the journals relate to her work with the organization ASSITEJ and her work with children's theatres in the former USSR.

  • The Association (ASSITEJ) was established in 1965 as an international alliance of drama professionals and practitioners interested in furthering children’s access to and experience of theatre Doolittle was a member of the Association since 1968 and Vice-President from 1972-1978; she also the president of the Canadian Centre for ASSITEJ 1968-1972.
  • Series consists of correspondence, speaking notes, conference programs, pamphlets, publications, brochures, and newsletters of the Association.

Series consists of personal correspondence with members of the Doolittle family including a folder of correspondence with the “Tooth Fairy,” Doolittle’s Master of Arts degree from Indiana University, records related to Doolittle’s interest in saving historic buildings, and records on the retirement of Doolittle from the University of Calgary. Series also consists of records from Doolittle’s childhood (report cards, published poems, drama productions she took part in (Joyce Donahue), newspaper clippings about her marriage to Quenten Doolittle, and a folder of records related to Quenten’s accomplishments.
