Series consists of the drawings and sketches of Frederick William Beechey (1796-1856), an English naval officer, artist, explorer, hydrographer and writer. In 1819-20 he served under W.E. Parry in the Hecla on a voyage of discovery to the eastern Arctic, spending the winter in Winter Harbour, Melville Island, where he made scientific observations and sketches of the terrain.

File consists of five drawings of walruses. Animal in lower right corner is captioned "Saddleback". This includes four studies of walrus heads; three are painted one remains unfinished. There is detailed attention to skin texture, eyes, and tusk. Below these is a pencil sketch of two Saddleback walruses on an ice floe.
