English concert pianist Dame Myra Hess was born in London, England, on February 25, 1890. Died in London, England, on November 25, 1965. Biographical information available in The dictionary of national biography, 1961-1970, p. 508-510.

MsC 255 acquired in 1981. MsC 292 donated by Daphne Payne in 2003.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of three scrapbooks chronicling Dame M. Hess's musical career. Scrapbooks contain newsclippings of articles about Dame M. Hess, concert programs, tour agendas, concert reviews and promotional material. Also includes holograph letter (MsC 292) from Dame M. Hess to Phyllis Matheson, a close friend.
