Name of creator
M. J. Dover, née Cross, born July 1, 1905. Daughter of pioneer rancher and brewer A.E. Cross and Helen Macleod; granddaughter of Colonel James Macleod, Commissioner of the North West Mounted Police and founder of Fort Macleod. Educated in Calgary, Victoria and Montreal. Married Melville Grant Dover in 1930. Lived in India and Ceylon, 1930-1939. Lieutenant-Colonel in Canadian Women's Army Corps during World War II. Ran unsuccessfully as a Liberal candidate for the Alberta Legislative Assembly on two occasions. Calgary alderman 1949-1952, 1957-1960. Awarded Order of Canada, Order of the British Empire and honorary doctorate from University of Calgary.
Acquired in 1974 and 1986.
