Biographical history
The Division of Family Practice was formed in 1969 in the Faculty of Medicine. The name changed in 1981 to the Department of Family Practice and in 1983 it became the Department of Family Medicine.
In 2014, the Faculty of Medicine was renamed the Cumming School of Medicine.
The mission of the Department of Family Medicine is to create, refine, and promote the values, knowledge, and skills to provide exemplary family health care. The department has a Residency Program which is spread through Southern Alberta in Rural, Regional, and Local locations. It is also involved in Continuing Medical Education.
