Biographical history
Joseph Henry Perrigo was born on March 16, 1868 to Elisha and Sarah Perrigo. His birth was registered in Bramley, County of York in England. During the Boer War he enlisted in the 57th Company, Imperial Yeomanry, serving from February 14, 1900 until December 18 of the same year. On January 26, 1901, at age 33 and already widowed, he married Maude Stead, age 19, in Ohey, County York, England. In January 1902, he moved to Rockland, Massachussets. By 1909, he and his wife moved to Calgary, Alberta. On February 9, 1915, he volunteered for service in the Canadian Expeditionary Force and was sent to Sandhurst, UK, for training. He served in the medical corps (CAMC) and was discharged from duty in January, 1917, as a consequence of being unfit for further military service. In the 1930’s, Perrigo and his wife moved to Port Alberni, British Columbia where Perrigo worked as a shoemaker. He died in 1961.

Consist of material related to Perrigo's service in the Boer War for Britian, WWI for Canada, and some personal records attesting to Perrigo's domestic life in Canada in between and following the wars.
