Biographical history

Heather Gervais, of Surrey, British Columbia, is the great great granddaughter of Edward McCoskrie, one of the early professional architects of western Canada. McCoskrie was born in Liverpool, England, became an architect, and immigrated to Canada in 1870. He practiced his profession in London (Ontario), Winnipeg, 1875-1883, Brandon, Regina, Calgary, 1884-1888, Vancouver, and Victoria. He was the first Town Architect and Engineer of Calgary, and designed the original Town Hall, Fire Hall, Elbow River Bridge, Church of the Redeemer (Anglican), and St. Mary’s Cathedral (Roman Catholic). In City of Calgary records, his name was sometimes given as McCroskie.
