Biographical history

John Darley Harrison, 1866-1938, was born in Norton, Nova Scotia and was trained as a physician at McGill University. He moved to Edmonton in 1892 and practiced there for many years. He served on the board of governors of the University of Alberta. He and his wife, Annie Laura Robertson, had two sons, J.B.V. and Robert Henry Charles, 1902-?. Robert was educated in Edmonton and received his LLB from the University of Alberta in 1926. He practiced in Leduc and Edmonton, 1927-1940, served in the RCAF in the Second World War, and then worked as an oil and gas lawyer in Calgary for BA Oil. He was president of the Canadian Petroleum Association.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of photographs of the Harrison family and Imperial Oil Co. operators in the Mackenzie Valley (Norman Wells, NWT). Includes photographs of Royal North-West Mounted Police (RNWMP) patrols and Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) store in the Athabasca River area.
